Call for Chapters for an Edited Volume

Class & News

Work has begun on a new edited book looking at class and news. News as a cultural product has been examined closely by scholars for the past several decades. Sociologists and media scholars have successfully looked at news for ideological content, including how news may shape readers and viewers' ideas about politics, gender and race. One area that has not been explored deeply is the idea of how news may influence an audience's ideas about class.

How the media in general, and the news media in particular, deal with class may contribute greatly to citizens' ideas about class. A small group of researchers have written about class and news in the
past few years. This work has been primarily published in journals and presented at academic conventions. This would be a book which would explore the topic of class and news in more depth. The book
would deal with different aspects of journalistic treatment or neglect of class, and the ways in which class is manifested in our culture.

If you have research completed in this area or are interested in contributing a chapter to this volume, please submit a 500 word synopsis of your idea to:
