2009 Approaches...

convention Web site AEJMC.org's convention page already has links to the Boston Sheraton and a 2009 convention logo featuring a quill pen, good hints that it's time to write some proposals for panel discussions for next August's convention. The deadline is Oct. 15. (The official call for papers will come after the first of the year.)

Boston was the the birthplace of both America's first newspaper, lasting for one issue, and America's first continuing newspaper -- making the city a fine setting to discuss the challenges facing newspaper publishing today.

THE NAME

Does "Newspaper" still describe what the division is about? Would "newsmedia" (as INMA now uses) or another description be better? Or does "newspaper" continue to fit the division as well as it fits ASNE and NAA?

See Susan Keith's call for a discussion in Leadtime. For background, see her article in the March issue, as well as the AEJMC Strategic Plan documents at the Members Forum. For discussion, use the e-mail list.
