Public Relations Students Invited to Apply for International Study Grant
Students in public relations whose plans include study or research outside the United States are encouraged to apply for the Susanne A. Roschwalb Grant for International Study and Research, awarded annually by the Public Relations Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
The $250 grant is intended to offset a portion of the cost of travel associated with international study or research. Deadline for receipt of applications is April 16, 2010 for international study or research during the 2010-2011 academic year.
Award Criteria
Full-time undergraduate and graduate students majoring in or emphasizing public relations at four-year colleges and universities in the United States are eligible to apply. Applicants must provide a one-page description of their intended international program of study or research, a letter of support from a full-time public relations faculty member, and the completed application form. Complete application requirements are printed on the accompanying application form
The Roschwalb Grant Committee will notify the winner and unsuccessful applicants no later than May 31 and will send a check for the amount of the award by August 1.
Award History
The award was established in 1996 to honor the memory of Susanne A. Roschwalb, an Associate Professor at American University, public relations practitioner, and active member of the AEJMC Public Relations Division until her death in 1996 at age 56 from complications related to breast cancer. Previous winners include:
- 2008 - Patrick O'Rourke, Ph.D. student, University of Alabama, for his examination of how and to what extent concepts of excellence in leadership in public relations are incorporated into textbooks and classroom teaching in the United Kingdom and the United States.
- 2007 - Ai Zhang, Ph.D. Student, University of Maryland, for her investigation of the differences in ethical decision making models between China and the United States, and their impact on public relations practice.
- 2006 - Elina Erzikova, Ph.D. Student, University of Alabama, for her multi-method research on excellent public relations in smaller Russian cities.
- 2005 - Lan Ni, Ph.D. Candidate, University of Maryland, for research on globalization strategies of multinational corporations in China and their impact on local employees
- 2004 - Jiyang Bae, master's student, University of Florida, for investigation of reputation subdimension in Korean companies
- 2003 - Katerina Tsetsura, doctoral student, Purdue University, for research on women practicing public relations in Russia.
- 2002 - Jae-Hwa Shin, doctoral student, University of Missouri, for research on multicultural source-reporter relationships
- 2001 - Samsup Jo, doctoral student, University of Florida
- 2000 - Doga Taslardan, undergraduate student, Abilene Christian University, for research in Athens, Greece
- 1999 - Martin Eichholz, doctoral student, Syracuse University, for research on public relations in multinational corporations
- 1998 - Anastasia Egorova, master's student, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, for research on public relations practice in Russia.
- 1997 - Kerry Anderson Crooks, doctoral student, University of Florida, for research on British public relations and public policy issues
